Outside / In : Connected with the Street
Opening: September 5th, 2008, 5-9pm
Through: September 27th, 2008
Street art can be found everywhere; on buildings, sidewalks, street signs, and trash cans from Tokyo to Paris to New York City. This special kind of art experienced a resurgence in the 1960's as an expression of political and social unrest.
Somewhere along the way, street art has morphed into the mainstream and murals, paintings, sculptures and stickers have made their way into galleries, museums, artist communities, books and magazines.
Street art has become part of a global visual culture and its presence has the ability to influence and connect cultures, provoke thought, and transform dialogue.
Outside / In -Connected With The Street reflects different forms of street art and how this art form connects street culture with popular culture. The show will include art from various Louisville-based street and performance artists.
During the opening on Friday, September 5th, and for the East Market street fair on Saturday, September 27th, Outside / In will offer performance urban art on the street in front of NuLu in addition to the exhibition inside the gallery.
